Kia Ora Lay Marists, Marian Mothers & friends,

As we enter Holy week, we particularly think of, and pray for those people and communities in New Zealand and Vanuatu, whose lives and livelihoods have been severely impacted by cyclones Gabrielle, Kevin and Judy. May we all give generously in whatever ways we can to help in the restoration of these areas. Our Lady of Perpetual Help, pray for us.

I know you will all enjoy listening to Bev’s reflection this month as she speaks of the promise of God’s Spirit that gives us hope, and that our lives are held firm by the indestructible power of Love. A timely reminder!

The damage caused by cyclone Gabrielle across several areas in New Zealand has been disastrous, with at least 11 people killed, thousands displaced and millions of dollars of damage. St. Thérèse’s Catholic Church in Wairoa was one of a number of churches that were inundated. The Marist Priest in residence there, Fr Karaitiana Kingi, was helped from his home by his nephew as the waters rose.

In early March the Islands of Vanuatu were devastated by two cyclones. There is a lot of damage to buildings, trees and crops around the Vanuatu Islands, including the capital, Port Vila. When communications were restored, our Marist community reported that they are all safe.
